Notice of Race

Amended Interim Version

Year 2007 Race Series

AMYA Fleet #241

Central Florida R/C Model Yacht Club

This interim NOR is an attempt to encourage more participation by fleet members and allow for owners of more than one boat to qualify for awards in a fair way.

Rules

This series of races will be sailed under the current ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing 2005-2008 Appendix E with modifications noted as follows:

  1. A boat “out of control” may resume a race if he comes back in to control
  2. A boat over early at the start must observe the “round the end rule”, prior to the starting signal a boat is allowed to dip back to the proper side of the starting line as long as it does not interfere with other boats.
  3. Under special conditions the one minute start may be either lengthened or shortened
  4. Five minute rule will be enforced. When the first boat in a class finishes a race all other boats in that class must finish with five minutes and all boats not finishing within the time limit will be scored as finishing last in the race.
  5. When used, a mark offset at a normal turning mark, to prevent jambing-up at turning marks, will be subject to same rounding rules as all turning marks.
  6. Under previous ISAF rules luffing was allowed, intensional rapid luffing is not allowed under current rules. A leeward boat may head up slowly on a windward boat and must hail as it is doing so.
  7. Protests must be hailed on the course and not post race. A decision on the protest must be resolved at the end of the race and no appeals will be allowed.
  8. Race Committee has the discretion to modify rules as conditions require

Note: Because we sail at some distance for accurate visualization of circumstances on the course, sailing too close a competitor to allow for accurate rulings is not wise. In the event an infraction occurs because of close proximity, the ROW boat shall call burdened boat for a penalty even when the ROW boat is not in total control. (This situation is mostly caused by trying to pass too closely to windward on both weather and free legs.

Eligibility

All boats are invited to race but to be eligible for series points the skipper shall be a member of AMYA Fleet #241 and shall have his/her boat in compliance with class rules

Classes

A class shall be eligible for scoring if at least two boats are registered

Current Classes are:

Victoria

Seawind

One Meter

Fairwind

Event Schedule

Racing offically begins at 1 PM and ends at 4 PM. Because of circumstances (weather, traffic, etc.) the first race may not start at exactly 1 PM. A race started before 4 PM but ends after 4 PM will count. If all skippers are in agreement, racing maybe extended past 4 PM deadline.

All efforts will be made to have as many races run as practical within given conditions.

At the end, or called end, of the last class finish, the prepatory signal for the next race will be in two (2) minutes if practical.

A boat may be hauled out for any reason between races and may be re-launched at any time up to the starting signal of the next race.

After five (5) races a 5-10 minute break will be taken

Scoring

Events -

Event scoring shall be the low point system with first place scoring one (1) point, second place scoring two (2) and so forth.

All boats in a class that are present will be scored for all races.

DSQ shall be equal to the number of boats in the race in that class plus two (2) points

During an event with five (5) races scored there are no throwouts, after 6-9 races one (1) throwout is allowed, ten or more races allow two (2) throwouts. If a skipper misses a race or races the races sailed will count for throwout allowance, not the number of races sailed by the class

Throwouts allow the dropping of the lowest scores in that event and may include DNS’s, DSQ’s and DNF’s but not DSQ’s under Rule 89.3(b).

To qualify for event scoring a skipper must participate in a minimum of nominally 75% of races raced in his class*.

Event exception - If a skipper allows his boat to be used as a demo or can not participate in a race because of fleet obligations, up to two (2) credits for racing a race are allowed. The credited races will be scored with the average finish in participated races. If a skipper in a class with at least three registered boats is the only boat in that class in an event, the skipper will be scored as winner of that event.

The placement scoring will be the average finishing score of the races. Credited races will be scored as the average finish is participated races.

Guests racing in a class will for qualify for scoring but will show as finishing in the place they finished and registered boats finishing behind are scored in the position that they finish.

If a skipper within a class has two boats, he will be scored as a different skipper when sailing a second boat and scores will not be combined to fulfill participation requirements.

* Skippers declaring multi-class status prior to the start of their racing do not need to meet the 75% criteria

Series –

In a race series within a class a skipper must race in nominally 60% of events. In the event an event is not held on a scheduled day, all skippers are given credit as sailed toward the 60% total up to two (2) occurrences. These credits will be scored with the average placement in participated events.

There are no throwouts in a series and the standing will be scored as the average finish in events sailed.

In the event that less than three skippers qualify in a class, the next skippers in participation  will be promoted to qualifiers with tie breakers based on scoring.

ex. 12 race series, two skippers have 7 or more races and qualify for top two positions, if one or more skippers have 6 races they qualify for next places, then five races etc.

For the overall annual results, a skipper must qualify in two of the three racing series, Spring, Summer and Fall to qualify.
